Pub of the Season
Summer Pub of the Season to the Nelthorpe Arms, South Ferriby
In early July branch members made their way over to the Nelthorpe Arms at South Ferriby to present our first
Pub of the Season award for over two years. This summer award was made because the Nelthorpe is a first-class pub
with good beer and it also recognised licensee Gavin Richard’s major role in setting up the new Shadow Bridge microbrewery
based in Barton. All three of the Shadow Bridge core beers – Battle Standard, Dragon Slayer and Elvish Fury – were on at
the pub on the day and all proved very drinkable.
Gavin thanked us for the award and updated us on all the Shadow Bridge news. The brewery tap at the Old Tile Works is now
open and going well and in September the first of the Shadow Bridge seasonal beers should make an appearance –
Wrath of the Gods, a pale ale. Other local pubs are also currently taking the draught versions of Shadow Bridge beers
and the bottled beer sales are buoyant.
A very pleasant afternoon ensued sampling the Shadow Bridge beers in Wilson’s Snug and catching up with other members and
friends. The photo shows Branch Chairman Mark Elsome (left, centre) making the presentation to Nelthorpe arms licensee
Gavin Richards flanked by local CAMRA members. We congratulate Gavin and staff at the pub on their award. Thanks to all
the members who came along to support us on the day.
