Pub of the Season
Pub of the Season Autumn 2014
The Black Horse, Wrawby
Our Autumn Pub of the Season award goes to the Black Horse in Wrawby, near Brigg.
This large roadside pub is situated on Melton Road, a busy route to and from Brigg. In charge at the Black Horse is
Simon Raby, who hasbeen at the helm for 5 years. He has a background of working in pubs, but this is his first
premises as a licensee.
The Black Horse is tied to pub company Punch Taverns, but has a degree of freedom in the cask ales it offers.
Simon has two handpulled real ales on the bar at all times, and rotates pale beers such as Kelham Island Easy
Rider, Morland Old Golden Hen, Castle Rock Harvest Pale and Marstons New World with darker beers such as
Wychwood Hobgoblin, Sharps Doombar and Timothy Taylor Landlord as pairs.
The pub has two well appointed rooms - a bar and a lounge separated by service from a central bar,
plus a dining room at the rear. The bar itself has a log burner to keep away the autumn and winter chills.
The lounge is used mainly for dining, and apart from Mondays, a bar menu and carvery are available
lunchtime and evening from Tuesday to Saturday (12-2 pm, 5.30-8 pm), as well as Sunday from 12-3 pm. There is
also a large beer garden for use in the warmer months of the year, and the pub has ample parking.
A popular pub quiz night is run on Thursday evenings which brings in customers from far and wide.
We congratulate Simon and staff at the Black Horse on their award presented on Saturday 29th November.
