Winter Pub of the Season Presentation
The Haven Inn, Barrow Haven

At the end of March a good turnout of Scunthorpe & District CAMRA members and friends gathered at the Haven Inn at Barrow Haven to present them with the Winter Pub of the Season award.

Presentation

A 2019 Good Beer Guide entry and previous Pub of the Season, the Haven Inn is now under the ownership of Lindy and Joseph Mansley who recently took charge. With no real experience in the trade, the couple, who had enjoyed eating and drinking there for over a decade, decided to take the business on when it came up for sale and it is great to see the Haven continue to flourish.

They offer three handpulled real ales - Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Theakston Old Peculier as standard and a rotating guest, which on our visit was Black Sheep Best Bitter, but often features more local brews from the likes of Axholme and Great Newsome.

We also partook of some lunchtime food from their extensive menu and a relaxed, enjoyable afternoon ensued. The food menu proves very popular and is served seven days a week in the restaurant and bar including traditional fare and a range of specials. It is still relatively early days, but the couple have plans for the Haven including refurbishing the guest rooms and expanding the popular conservatory seating area.

Lindy and Joe have introduced monthly live music, are looking to expand the use of the function suite and a recent first gourmet tasting event with chef Nigel Brown.

Presentation

Branch committee member Sarah Morgans presented licensee Lindy Mansley with the framed Pub of the Season certificate and we congratulate all at the Haven Inn on their award.
